Followup on Notes

Hi Stephan Kaminsky, that is an interesting idea. We have comments for notes so if students want to follow up on something they can always use that.
What would be some of the use case for this feature?

Duong Nguyen: I am thinking that we may make a post about some discussion, lab, etc. Then they could ask more related questions and get a more structured style question/answer format. The idea was to make it so there are fewer posts students may need to look through when they have some question which has already been answered. Mainly, we are considering switching over from piazza and one thing we would do to reduce some posts was to make a master post for a project which students would follow up on questions.

Stephan Kaminsky: Thanks for explaining the use case. One problem that I could potentially see with using notes this way is that it makes it difficult to manage questions in your class. It would be hard for both students and instructors to sort through questions and answers.
A possible solution for this use case would be to use our category feature (you can customize your own category), and then asking students to tag their posts in that category. That way, it's much easier for instructors and TAs to manage questions in their class and also easier for students to sort through questions and answers.
Let me know your thoughts!

Duong Nguyen: Ya I do agree with this. We will just have to adjust to the new structure of this vs Piazza. I still think it could be useful if I had posted some notes as a note and some students had some more questions about that post, I feel the chat can make questions get easily lost and it seems like asking a new question separate may become more manageable. I think that is another case I am thinking about as well.

Stephan Kaminsky: Maybe a potential solution would be to keep notes as it is but to create a new post type that allow users to directly ask and link their questions at the bottom of the post. In a way it's like a master post that has children posts (a more advanced version of category filter).
If you need help with moving from Piazza, please feel free to reach out to our team through the in-app chat bubble!

Duong Nguyen: One benefit to this design is that these follow-up threads can be upvoted so that the most helpful threads are at the top. A randomizer mode for threads would be nice for facilitating class discussion.
Right now, I think the workaround for instructors is to create a "Question" post and pin it.
